Filipino athletes who led the Philippines’ strong showing in the recently concluded 2024 Paris Olympics returned to the Philippines on Tuesday evening, August 13, 2024.
The chartered flight carrying the Philippine delegation led by double gold medalist Carlos Yulo and bronze medalists Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas arrived at the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.
The Olympians received a warm welcome from their families and supporters before heading to Malacañan Palace, where they will be greeted by President Ferdinand Marcos and the First Family during a ceremony in the Ceremonial Hall.
The Filipino athletes returned home in Manila from Dubai. The plane touched down at the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City at exactly 7:07 p.m.
The Philippine delegation was welcomed by Grade 4 students from Villamor Elementary School, who waved Philippine flags while they were walking on the red carpet upon their arrival.
From Villamor Airbase, the Olympians proceeded to Malacanang, where a special ‘Heroes Welcome’ program was prepared.
President Marcos will personally honor the athletes and present them with well-deserved incentives, recognizing their extraordinary contributions to Philippine sports and their stellar performance during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
