The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) hailed on Sunday weightlifter Vanessa Sarno, whose family is a 4Ps beneficiary, for representing the country at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

In a Facebook post, the DSWD through its Pantawid Pamilyang PIlipino Program (4Ps) thanked and congratulated Sarno in her Olympic debut, despite her early exit in the summer games.

Sarno comes from a 4Ps household in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. She participated in the women’s 71kg weightlifting division at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Your success is an honor for the Philippines, especially for the 4Ps community. You are proof that dreams can be accomplished through dedication and hard work. Mabuhay ka! (Long live!),” the DSWD said in its post description in Filipino.

4Ps is the national poverty reduction strategy and human capital investment program of the government that provides conditional cash transfer to poor households for a maximum period of seven years, to improve health, nutrition and education.

Sarno’s two younger siblings are being monitored by the DSWD under the program while her mother, a solo parent, is the household head.

The DSWD cheered on the 20-year-old weightlifter’s Olympics debut and expressed pride for her inclusion in the Philippine athletic delegation for Paris 2024. Sarno is a two-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist.

As of May 31, there are 4.3 million household-beneficiaries nationwide that are receiving conditional cash grants under the anti-poverty program.
