In the words of Teresita Ang See, the Alice Guo hearings have become a zarzuela. Perhaps, but at least the public learned quite a bit about POGO operations and the attendant shenanigans.
Without the hearings, we would never have known that millions have been taking advantage of the government allowing the late reporting of births even for entire families like the Guo family.
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian is right.
This case is a lot more complicated than it appears. It is not just all about the Filipino citizenship of Alice Guo but includes money laundering, human trafficking and financial scams all associated with POGO operations.
But all these rest on whether Alice Guo is indeed a Filipino citizen or not.
So, the earlier we find out about her real citizenship, the earlier we can move on.
So far, most of her statements are all obfuscations.
Are we to believe her story she has been kept in a pig farm in Bamban until she suddenly appeared to run for Mayor?
Bamban is not an isolated town that all members of the family were not able to register their births on time.
There is a local term for this and it is not pretty. Ginagago ni Alice Guo tayong mga Filipino.
She must really take all of us for fools.
As I wrote the other week, this case is so easy to clear up if we really want to get to the bottom of this wretched story.
All that has to be done is do a simple DNA laboratory test to determine her complete ethnicity.
If the DNA test will show that she is 50 per cent Filipino, then she is what she claims to be.
A love child between a Filipino house help and her Chinese biological father who also reported his own birth late.
But Alice has other siblings. Are they also children of what Alice is claiming to be her Filipino mother Amelia Leal?
Even without digging so much into the late reporting of birth with the PSA, there are already red flags.
Based on PSA records, there is no birth record of the alleged mother and no marriage record of an Amelia Leal to the biological father of Alice Guo whose name is Jian Zhong Guo AKA Angelito Guo.
The latest from Senator Gatchalian is one of the incorporators of Baofu Development Inc. named Len Wen Yi could be the mother of Alice Guo who had traveled with Angelito Guo, the accepted biological father of Alice Guo 171 times to China and holds a Chinese passport.
She is known in Valenzuela as the mother of Alice Guo. This woman is no longer in the country and it is doubtful whether she will ever return with Alice Guo’s father.
So where do we go from here?
It is time for the Senate to now pass a bill to abolish POGO and reform the procedure in the late reporting of births.
It is unacceptable that there are more than 3 million births in this country that are being reported late.
It is also shocking that the PSA, a government agency that deals on statistics and probabilities, is not questioning why there are hundreds of thousands of late reporting of births in the country and whether that number is statistically probable in relation to our population.
Late reporting for up to one month could be acceptable.
Anything longer than that should trigger more stringent procedures like DNA tests and others to prove that one of the parents of the person whose late birth is being reported is a Filipino citizen.
The Solicitor General should now also file the quo warranto case against Mayor Guo in spite of her six months suspension.
There is a saying, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck.
I hope that in the end, Mayor Guo can prove she is indeed a Filipino. Otherwise, she not only made fools of us all but also made a mockery of our entire government system.
