Tropical depression “Gener” slightly weakened over the Cordillera region and is expected to emerge over the West Philippine Sea today, making an exit from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the typhoon’s center was estimated at the vicinity of Kibungan, Benguet.
Meanwhile, DOST-PAGASA weather specialist Veronica C. Torres in a press briefing reported that tropical storm “Helen” (international name: Pulasan) is expected to enter the PAR Tuesday night or Wednesday morning but will remain far from any Philippine landmass.
Packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph, Gener was moving westward at 15 km/h.
Tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1 remains raised over Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, and Pampanga.
The southwest monsoon enhanced by Gener and Helen will bring moderate to heavy rainfall over various localities in Mimaropa, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and Bicol region through Wednesday.
Over the West Philippine Sea, Gener is forecast to move generally westward until Wednesday before turning west northwestward for the remainder of the forecast period.
On the track forecast, Gener is forecast to have limited intensification but may reach tropical storm category by Wednesday morning.
