Former Bureau of Immigration (BI) chief Norman Tansingco thanked President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. for the ‘opportunity’ to serve under his ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ administration.

Tansingco issued the statement two days after he was ousted from his post due to the controversial escape of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo. He acknowledged the ‘herculean task’ of running the agency, which he held for almost two years.

“Right at the get go, it has been a focused yet challenging effort to address the various concerns confronting the BI,” Tansingco said on Wednesday.

Though he admits that work for the agency’s reforms is not finished, he noted that they were able to make progress during his term.

Tansingco also expressed his gratitude to fellow Immigration commissioners, as well as the Department of Justice, for creating measures that enacted the agency’s reforms.

“You must continue to work solely for the interest of the public, over and above other interests,” he reminded BI personnel.

News about Tansingco’s dismissal was first shared by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Monday and confirmed by Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cesar Chavez on the same day.
