The Association of Women Legislators Foundation Inc. (AWLFI) opened this week its traditional “PamasCONG Handog: Garage Sale for a Cause IV” at the North Wing Lobby of the House of Representatives.

Known for its humanitarian projects, the AWLFI organized the event to support the implementation of the Philippine Mental Health Law (Republic Act No. 11036) as well as to help the country’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

AWLFI chairperson and Tingog party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez said the proceeds from the fundraising initiative will fund the construction of a women and children protection unit building at the National Center for Mental Health in Mandaluyong.

She described it as a “landmark project of the AWLFI of the 19th Congress.”

“Each purchase helps strengthen the sustainability of our local entrepreneurs and MSMEs,” Romualdez added.

AWLFI president and Bulacan Rep. Linabelle Ruth Villarica thanked her fellow legislators who shared some of their pre-loved items as well as those who have brought in various novelty and local goods from their districts.

Some of the products on sale include vibrant fabrics from Ilocos; fresh carabao milk from Batangas; organic coffee from Misamis Occidental; creative handcrafts from Samar and Leyte; Pampanga sweets and delicacies; Mindanao handcrafted pearls and accessories; and fine jewelry and “kakanin” (food items) from Bulacan, among others.

Celebrities Aiko Melendez (also a Quezon City councilor), Coleen Garcia, and Billy Crawford graced the occasion.

San Miguel Corp. served as the event’s major sponsor.
