More than 600 inmates or persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Correctional Institution for Women in Davao Del Norte have benefited from free legal and medical services rendered by the Katarungan Caravan spearheaded by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The project was launched by the Prosecutor’s Office in Region 9 headed Prosecutor Janet Grace Dalisay-Fabrero under the direct supervision of Undersecretary Margarita Gutierrez and Assistant State Prosecutor Joan Carla Guevarra.

“Through our legal and medical mission for inmates, we do not merely seek to uphold the dignity and rights of people but also pave a way for their healing and total reformation,” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said.

It has been the department’s unwavering commitment to provide crucial services that uphold compassion and justice which promote the well-being of every individual, he said.

Among the project’s agency-partners are the National Prosecution Service, the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), Office of Mayor Lea Marie Moral-Romano, paralegals from the Rizal Memorial Colleges, and volunteer doctors.
