Amid threats of a three-day protest by transport group Manibela starting today, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board announced it will apprehend unconsolidated public utility vehicles whose franchises were revoked after the April 30 consolidation deadline.
Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III clarified that the LTFRB agreed to consider appeals to allow unconsolidated jeepney drivers to register for the whole year.
He said “what we said is, we would study first what could be the impact if we allow it.”
“But we never said yes,” he added.
Under the law, those unconsolidated PUVs have already lost their franchises, he said, asking “what strike are they talking about.”
The government would issue a show-cause order against operators and drivers who would join the transport strike.
Manibela president Mar Valbuena earlier said 25,000 of their members are joining the three-day strike.
