Mayoralty candidate Karlo Nograles is planning to turn Davao City into a digital hub.
Nograles, who resigned as the chair of the Civil Service Commission to try to claim the leadership from his former boss and now political rival Rodrigo Duterte, announced his plans for the city if given the chance to rule his fellow Davawenyos in 2025 election.
Nograles laid out his plans that include setting up a digital infrastructure plan to improve the city’s business system to entice more investors.
Nograles said if this is implemented, more jobs will be created.
He added a “Digital Davao” is a business-friendly Davao.
“We should not wait for investors to come to us; we should draw them to Davao with a modern city hall that can process business permits and all other requirements online,” Nograles said.
He underscored the need for an environment conducive to business, starting with the elimination of red tape, that would make the processes for starting a business less tedious and more efficient.
He said that if given the opportunity to serve his fellow Davawenyos, he will use what he learned in the CSC to make Davao City’s bureaucracy work faster, more convenient and more efficient.
“Better internet is crucial in providing jobs. A housewife, for example, who is unable to participate in traditional jobs due to care-work can capitalize on the internet and pursue digital entrepreneurship, and even access trainings and other learning modules to improve knowledge and skills,” he said.
Nograles succeeded in obtaining an approved budget of P3.8 billion project to modernize the whole governments human resource management system when he was the chief of the CSC.
“Let’s utilize technology so that our stay-at-home mothers can work from home. This is why improving access to the internet will be a top priority, especially in areas where network access is spotty,” he added.
