Marcos taps Yulo-Loyzaga as DRRM special envoy

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday appointed former environment secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga as Special Envoy for Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM), citing her extensive expertise in disaster resilience.

During a ceremony at Malacañang, Marcos expressed support for her role in advancing the administration’s initiatives on climate action, renewable energy, and disaster risk reduction.

“President Marcos expressed confidence that Yulo-Loyzaga will champion sound environmental governance and help build a more resilient Philippines,” the Presidential Communications Office said.

Yulo-Loyzaga previously served as Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) from 2022 to 2025.

Before that, she was a director at the United Nations International Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies for two years.

She also served as president of the National Resilience Council and was a member of the UNDRR Asia Pacific Science and Technology Advisory Group.

Her earlier roles include serving as executive director of the Manila Observatory from 2007 to 2016.

Yulo-Loyzaga holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Ateneo de Manila University and a Master of Arts in Government from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
