Sarmiento: Stay calm ahead of BARMM polls

Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento on Tuesday urged stakeholders in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to remain calm and united as the region prepares for its first parliamentary elections on Sept. 14.

“My appeal is for the contending parties in Parliament to uphold the rule of law and stability,” Sarmiento said. “If there are contentious issues that need to be resolved, legal processes are available to address the current situation.”

He urged all parties to use formal legal channels in resolving disputes to protect the “hard-earned peace” in the Bangsamoro region.

Sarmiento also underscored that the upcoming elections will complete the political track under the Bangsamoro Organic Law as provided in the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.
