The Bureau of Internal Revenue has shut down an online selling operation in Cebu for failing to declare more than P211 million in sales.
The closure order was implemented on March 12 under the BIR’s Oplan Kandado program following an investigation by the agency’s Regional Investigation Division in Central Visayas.
Authorities said the operation stemmed from a joint probe with the National Bureau of Investigation after receiving information that an online seller was offering luxury goods through Facebook Live and other platforms without issuing receipts or registering with the BIR.
Surveillance and tax verification linked the business to locations in Mandaue City and Cebu City. Records seized during the operation showed gross sales exceeding P211 million.
The BIR estimated the seller’s minimum tax liability at P40.4 million and said it is preparing tax assessments and possible charges under the Run After Tax Evaders program, according to Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza.
