The United States Embassy in Manila announced on Monday, February 2, that it would not be regularly updating its social media accounts due to a “lapse in appropriations.”
In an advisory, the embassy stated that its social media accounts would not be updated regularly until full operations resume, except for urgent safety and security information.
This announcement follows a partial shutdown of the American government that began on Saturday, as the US House of Representatives has yet to approve the final version of a package of five bills already passed by its Senate.
The embassy reassured the public that scheduled visa interviews and American Citizens Services appointments at the US Embassy in the Philippines will continue as planned during the lapse.
“The offsite Visa Application Center in Parqal, Parañaque City, will also remain open for visa applicants who are scheduled for photo and fingerprint collection,” the advisory read.
The embassy urged the public to check their website for updates on U.S. citizen services at ph.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/ and for visa information at ph.usembassy.gov/visas.
“The public may continue to contact the Consular Section through ACSInfoManila@state.gov (for U.S. Citizens) or ph.usembassy.gov/contact-us-visas/ (for visa applicants),” the advisory added.
