LTO eyes expanding e-trike ban on big roads

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) is considering expanding the coverage of the e-trike and e-bike ban to Commonwealth Avenue and Quezon Avenue in Quezon City, as well as Sumulong Highway and Marcos Highway.

LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said the expansion may be implemented in phases, starting with Commonwealth Avenue, followed by the other major roads.

He said the move is due to safety concerns, noting that e-vehicles often enter the middle of the road from both sides, disrupting traffic flow.

On January 2, the LTO began enforcing the ban on major Metro Manila roads, including Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), C-5 Road, Roxas Boulevard, and the stretch from Quirino Avenue to Magallanes–South Luzon Expressway.

The measure is part of the Department of Transportation’s road safety efforts, with Lacanilao adding that impoundment of violators’ e-vehicles will start this week.
