A TOTAL of 231 truckloads of garbage were collected in Manila following the New Year celebration, authorities reported.
The volume of waste collected amounted to around 1,405 metric tons, reflecting the scale of post-holiday cleanup operations.

As of 11 a.m. on January 2, private collectors had already hauled 213 truckloads, or about 1,339 metric tons, of garbage.
Meanwhile, the Manila Department of Public Safety collected 18 truckloads, equivalent to 66 metric tons.
The largest volume of trash came from Divisoria and nearby areas, which traditionally see heavy crowds during the holiday season.
