The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has organized a virtual meeting with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) about illegal charter operations to enhance aviation safety and regulatory enforcement.
At least 121 participants from various CAAP airports and offices, along with representatives from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the Bureau of Immigration (BI), the Bureau of Customs (BOC), the Office for Transportation Security (OTS), and the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group attended the session held on Thursday, March 20.
Illegal charter flights pose serious risks to passenger safety and security by operating without the proper approvals and oversight. To tackle this issue, CAAP and the FAA collaborated to raise awareness and underscore the importance of regulatory compliance.
“This collaboration with the FAA emphasizes our unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and legality of air transport operations in the Philippines. By equipping aviation and law enforcement personnel with the necessary training and expertise, we can enhance our ability to prevent illegal charter activities,” said CAAP Director General Retired Lt. Gen. Raul del Rosario.
CAAP reaffirms its dedication to strengthening regulatory enforcement and increasing awareness to protect passengers while upholding the integrity of aviation operations through international collaboration. Further engagements and training initiatives are expected as part of this ongoing partnership.
