Malacañang said the Department of Transportation gave a ‘shortlist’ for the possible new Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) general manager (GM) after Oscar Bongon was relieved from his post.

In a Palace briefing, Castro confirmed that the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) received a list of names for possible replacement.

“Castro said that we have been told that a list has already been submitted, it has been submitted to the PMS, and we are just waiting for who might be the next GM of the MRT,” Castro said.

Asked how many names are included in the list, Castro said she doesn’t have personal knowledge of the candidates.

In a radio interview earlier, DOTr chief Vince Dizon confirmed his decision to remove Bongon, citing the need for changes in the agency.

“I think we need to have some changes in our agencies, especially in those that directly affect the daily lives of our countrymen,” he said. “So, what we need here are people who can act fast.”

Earlier this month, Bongon received flak following a mishap involving an escalator inside the Taft Avenue station of the MRT 3.

According to reports, 10 passengers were hurt after an ascending escalator full of passengers malfunctioned resulting in people losing balance and falling on each other.
