Fact-checking coalition Tsek.ph to relaunch

The country’s pioneering fact-checking coalition, Tsek.ph, will relaunch on February 7, ahead of the May 12 elections.

A total of 24 fact-checking initiatives from academia, media, and civil society groups will accompany the launch to provide the public with accurate, fact-based election information.

International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) director Angie Drobnic Holan will deliver the keynote address at the launch.

The event will be livestreamed on Tsek.ph and DZUP’s Facebook pages at 10 a.m.

Launched in 2019, Tsek.ph initially brought together three academic institutions and 11 media partners. Since then, the coalition has expanded its network, notably during the 2022 elections, incorporating new members from academia, media, and civil society organizations, as well as multisectoral groups.

This year, Tsek.ph’s media partners include ABS-CBN, Agence France-Presse, DZUP, Facts First with Christian Esguerra, FYT, Interaksyon, MindaNews, PhilStar Global, Philippine Press Institute, Press One, Probe, and VERA Files.

Academic partners include the UP Department of Journalism’s FactRakers, the UP Department of Political Science, UP Baguio’s Department of Communication, UP Cebu College of Communication, Art, and Design, UP Visayas’ Division of Humanities, and the University of Santo Tomas.

Meanwhile, civil society partners are Akademiya at Bayan Kontra Disimpormasyon at Dayaan, Fact Check Philippines, IDEALS, Kontra Daya, the Philippine Association for Media and Information Literacy, and Pinas Forward.

Tsek.ph is supported this year by International Media Support, Meedan, the Embassy of Canada, the UP Journalism Department, and the UP CMC Foundation.
