Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday urged the Philippine Navy to “stand firm in protecting what is rightfully ours” as she recognized its role in defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Philippine Navy celebrated its 128th anniversary on Wednesday, May 20.
In a video message, Duterte commended naval personnel for safeguarding the country’s territorial waters amid ongoing maritime challenges.
“Amid the challenges in our seas, you serve as the first line of defense,” she said.
“Your duty is no small task — protecting our territory means securing the future of the next generation of Filipinos,” she added.
Duterte also cited the navy’s contribution to maintaining a free, stable, and peaceful nation, and encouraged personnel to uphold integrity and courage in carrying out their duties.
She reminded navy personnel to remain faithful to their oath and to the Constitution despite the challenges they face at sea.
