Government agents intercepted more than P8 million worth of suspected shabu at a cargo facility at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, authorities said Wednesday.
The shipment, falsely declared as “auto gear bearings,” originated from Uganda and was intended for a consignee in Cavite, according to a joint statement from the Bureau of Customs, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group.
Authorities said the parcel was flagged during cargo X-ray screening and later subjected to K9 and manual inspection, which confirmed the presence of suspected illegal drugs concealed inside the shipment.
Investigators found two aluminum gear bearings containing eco bags with knot-tied transparent plastic sachets filled with suspected shabu.
The confiscated drugs weighed about 1,234 grams and had an estimated street value of P8.39 million, authorities said.
Custody of the seized illegal drugs will be turned over to the PDEA for further investigation and proper disposition.
“We have intensified our operations against illegal drugs to prevent any attempts to smuggle them into the country. With the cooperation of various agencies, we will remain vigilant and proactive against illegal activities,” said PNP Aviation Security Group director Brig. Gen. Dionisio Bartolome Jr.
