The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) received a 55-meter vessel from the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to support its humanitarian missions.
The ship was turned over to the PCG on Thursday, January 30, 2025 after a deed of donation signing ceremony at the PRC national headquarters in Mandaluyong City.
PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan and PRC Chairman Richard Gordon signed on behalf of their respective organizations.
Gavan said the vessel named M/V Amazing Grace shall serve as a critical asset in delivering medical and humanitarian aid to remote communities, particularly in coastal areas.
Moreover, it strengthens the PCG’s capacity to respond to emergencies, natural disasters and public health crises.
“We are very fortunate that the Red Cross has recognized that transferring a key asset of the PRC to the Coast Guard would somehow enable both of us to put more value to this asset,” Gavan said.
In his speech, Gordon emphasized the humanitarian principles guiding their actions and expressed pride in donating the vessel to the PCG.
He shared his hope for the vessel to be used effectively, particularly for missions to remote areas like Pagasa Island.
