The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to provide training in March for more than 186,000 teachers, who will take on the role of electoral board members during the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.

In a press briefing, Comelec Human Resources and Technical Support Group Director Margaret Ching announced that training for 186,574 Election Board members will be held from March 3 to March 31.

Ching said that training of teachers for bigger provinces such as Bulacan will take place by the first week of April because the Comelec has to harmonize its schedule with the Department of Education (DepEd).

Under Republic Act No. 10756, the Comelec is authorized to tap the assistance of non-teaching personnel from the DepEd, as well as other government employees and private school teachers, to provide election-related services.

The Comelec will also train 9,766 Philippine National Police officers to serve as special electoral board members in case the designated poll officers are unable to fulfill their duties on Election Day.
