The Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) procured new combat rubber raiding crafts (CRRC) equipped with outboard motors for its Force Reconnaissance Group (FRG).
In a statement released Tuesday evening, the PMC announced that the new equipment underwent testing on January 25 at the FRG Headquarters located in Marine Barracks, Camp Gregorio Lim, Ternate, Cavite.
“The CRRC will be used by FRG deployed units attached with marine brigades and [Armed Forces of the Philippines Special Operations Command] in support to different special operations missions in the area of operations,” the PMC said.
“It will enhance its capability through providing reliable platforms that were operationally ready during various small-scale amphibious operations,” it added.
The CRRC aims to enhance the Marines’ capability in defending the country’s sovereignty and strategic maritime interests as well as provide a committed number of water assets at their prime condition that can be used in military operations.
“Aligned with the AFP Modernization Program, the PMC is steadfastly advancing toward its aspirations to be an amphibious crisis response force at very high readiness, an evolution integral to the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept (CADC),” the PMC said.
