The Philippine Army is gearing up for sustained modernization to improve the country’s territorial defense, according to Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, who recently conducted a command conference.
Speaking to soldiers in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City earlier this week, Galido outlined his vision for transforming the Army to meet evolving security challenges.
The conference, which marked the first for the year, reviewed the Army’s transition from internal security operations to a focus on territorial defense. Galido also assessed key accomplishments, and discussed updates on plans and programs.
“As we move from internal security to territorial defense and fulfill our mission of completely eliminating all security threats, we will continue to transform the Army,” Galido said, noting the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) campaign plan ‘Tatag Kapuluan’ (Strength of the Archipelago).
“We intend to set forth every effort to modernize the Army’s capabilities and equipment while making sure that our personnel [are] prepared and [have] improved skills to ensure our ability to secure the country,” he added.
The Army Chief also emphasized his leadership principles, encapsulated in the acronym “ARMY.” He urged soldiers to:
- Always pray and seek divine guidance;
- Be Reliable, Responsive, and Relevant in addressing national needs;
- Maintain a Mission-oriented focus to boost morale; and
- Yield personal interests to prioritize unity within the Army, the AFP, and the nation.
“As we begin this new year, let us do so with renewed zeal and continue to make meaningful contributions for the betterment of our organization,” Galido said.
