THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) has seized a shipment containing “shabu” worth P2.65 million stashed in coffee bean pouches at the Port of Clark in Pampanga.
The illegal shipment was discovered after BOC agents conducted profiling and X-ray scanning of the package, and found four pouches of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu with street value at P2.652 million.
The shipment arrived last Dec. 17 from the United States and was declared as “Gift Items Coffee Bags Candy or Snacks.”
Prior to its arrival in the country, the shipment was flagged by the X-ray Inspection Project for physical examination.
Customs examiner found several gift items and coffee bags, but further investigation revealed four vacuum-sealed transparent pouches of “shabu” weighing 390 grams.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency confirmed through laboratory analysis that the substance is methamphetamine hydrochloride, classified as a dangerous drug under the amended Republic Act No. 9165.
