The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) asked law enforcement agencies Friday to conduct a parallel investigation into the stabbing incident that occurred inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), which killed one person deprived of liberty (PDL) and injured two others on Thursday.
BuCor officer-in-charge Assistant Secretary Al Perreras wrote a formal request addressed to National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago and Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil to initiate an official probe into the case.
“The BuCor is asking the two agencies to conduct its own investigation in order to further establish the facts, promote transparency, and determine accountability,” the BuCor said in a press release.
Perreras also ordered NBP Acting Superintendent Roger Boncales to submit a comprehensive incident report on the matter and fully cooperate with the investigations to be conducted by the NBI and PNP.
At least four PDLS were believed to be involved in the incident who are currently under investigation.
Boncales said the body of slain PDL was already turned over to his family. The two injured PDLs, meanwhile, are still recovering from stab wounds at the Ospital ng Muntinlupa.
