President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday invited Filipinos to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) and watch this year’s film entries during the holiday season.
“This Christmas season, the stories of our heritage will once again take the spotlight. This is because of the special celebration of the 50th year of the Metro Manila Film Festival, which has become a part of our lives and culture as Filipinos,” Mr. Marcos said in his message.
The President highlighted the cultural significance of the annual event, describing the festival’s entries as a source of joy and valuable lessons.
“The wonderful films participating in the golden year of the MMFF are sure to bring golden joy and leave valuable lessons,” Marcos said.
He encouraged the public to support the festival by watching the 10 featured films, which he noted reflect stories about Filipinos.
This year’s lineup includes “And the Breadwinner is…,” “Green Bones,” “Isang Himala,” “The Kingdom,” “Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital,” “Espantaho,” “Hold Me Close,” “My Future You,” “Topakk,” and “Uninvited.”
With the theme “Sinesigla sa Singkwenta,” the MMFF’s golden year aims to celebrate Filipino creativity and talent. The festival organized by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) runs from December 25 to the first weekend of January.
The long-standing tradition of MMFF is a nationwide event that showcases films produced by Filipino filmmakers, offering entertainment and cultural reflection during the festive season.
