The Senate approved on Monday Senate Resolution No. 1248 or the Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) between the Philippines and Japan.
The resolution did not receive any objection and 19 senators voted in favor of the RAA, which aims to strengthen the defense relationship of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Self Defense Forces of Japan.
Senate Committee on Foreign Relations chairperson Sen. Imee Marcos said the RAA will not just deepen defense ties between the Philippines and Japan, but will also improve interoperability between their armed forces.
Senators Miguel Zubiri, Joel Villanueva, and Loren Legarda also expressed their support for this historical collaboration of the two countries.
