Marcos to fix DepEd budget cut, says Angara

Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara stated on Sunday that President Ferdinand Marcos gave his commitment to resolve the issue regarding the budget cut for DepEd in 2025.

“In past years, Congress has increased the President’s proposed budget for DepEd and education. For whatever reason, it’s sad that this will not happen with the 2025 budget. But the good thing is, President Bongbong himself told us that he will address this,” Angara said.

Initially, DepEd was allocated P748.6 billion, but this amount was reduced to P737 billion in the reconciled General Appropriations Bill (GAB) following the recent Bicameral Conference Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Angara expressed his disappointment upon learning about the P12 billion cut to the department’s budget. In his latest statement, he emphasized that Congress left them with promises and nice words.

“After all the promises and nice words, sadly Congress cut the President’s proposed budget for the Department of Education, particularly P10 billion for computerization. This is despite the President’s SONA (State of the Nation Address), where he asked Congress to help bridge the digital divide,” he said.

DepEd is still awaiting actions from Malacañang regarding this matter.
