A second impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte is expected to be filed on Wednesday at the House of Representatives, which will be endorsed by the Makabayan Bloc.
The bloc, in a media advisory, said around 50 representatives from various progressive organizations and concerned citizens will file the complaint over allegations of corruption and misuse of confidential funds during her stint as Education Secretary.
Bayan president Renato Reyes will lead the complainants at 1:00 p.m.
He will be joined by Makabayan Bloc representatives—Deputy Minority Leaders France Castro of ACT Teachers, Arlene Brosas of Gabriela and Raoul Manuel of Kabataan—”to demand accountability and express public outrage over the multi-million-peso confidential fund scandal.”
Manuel said various cause-oriented groups have realized the need to be part of the formal impeachment proceedings against Duterte.
“We also really want to entertain them whether they are youth leaders, urban poor, religious sector, and others, so that when we file, the representation of different groups will be included, Manuel said in Tagalog.
Manuel said the public wants the Vice President to be held accountable for the unexplained funds entrusted to her as then secretary of the Education department and as Vice President.
The complaint the Makabayan Bloc will endorse shall be grounded on the alleged anomalies in the regular funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) under Duterte’s term as secretary.
The House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability has been conducting hearings on allegations that Duterte misused ₱612.5 million in confidential funds allocated to the OVP and the DepEd during Duterte’s term as secretary.
On Monday, a coalition of activists lodged an impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte, accusing her of corruption and misconduct.
The complaint added to Duterte’s legal woes as she faces a probe into her alleged death threat against President Ferdinand Marcos, First Lady Liza Marcos and Speaker Martin Romualdez, as well as another inquiry into her use of government funds.
The first impeachment complaint stood on grounds of “culpable violation of the constitution, graft and corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust and other high crimes.
