The Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) installed Maj. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete as its new commander.
In a Change of Command and Retirement Ceremony at Camp Navarro, Zamboanga City, outgoing Commander Lt. Gen. William Gonzalez officially relinquished his position to Nafarrete.
Lt. Gen. Gonzales, the 18th Commander of WestMinCom, was recognized for his exceptional contributions, which included fostering excellence among his troops and advancing the command’s operational success.
In his valedictory address, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the men and women of WestMinCom, whom he described as the true strength of the institution. His leadership, marked by integrity, dedication, and shared accomplishments, left a lasting impact on the command.
As part of the retirement ceremony, plaques of recognition were awarded to Lt. Gen. Gonzales for his outstanding service. His wife, Mrs. Citesa Divina Gonzales, was also honored with a plaque of appreciation for her unwavering support throughout his military career, highlighting the role of family in sustaining military leaders.
Maj. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, formerly the Commander of the 6th Infantry Division, assumed his new role as Acting WestMinCom Commander with a forward-looking vision.
In his remarks, he expressed his commitment to continuing the legacy of excellence established by his predecessor and leading the command to new heights of accomplishment.
Later in the day, Maj. Gen. Nafarrete presided over a command conference where he engaged with personnel and received briefings on ongoing initiatives, setting the tone for his leadership tenure.
AFP Chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., in his speech, commended Lt. Gen. Gonzales for his steadfast leadership and significant contributions to the AFP. He also expressed confidence in Maj. Gen. Nafarrete’s capability to lead WestMinCom and ensure its operational effectiveness.
