‘Leon’ intensified into a violent and destructive super typhoon, prompting several local government units (LGUs) in affected areas across Luzon to suspend classes for Thursday, October 31. This precautionary move aims to ensure safety amid heavy rains and strong winds.
The following areas have suspended classes at all levels, both public and private, until further notice:
- Camarines Sur
- Tuguegarao, Cagayan
- Lemery, Batangas
- Los Baños, Laguna
- Dagupan City
- Benguet
- Rosales, Pangasinan
Face-to-face classes are suspended in additional locations, including:
- Camarines Norte (suspension effective until lifted)
- Albay (until November 3)
- Batangas – Calaca, Nasugbu, San Luis
- Laguna – Bay, Biñan, Cabuyao, Magdalena, Paete, Pagsanjan, San Pedro, Santa Cruz, Santa Maria
- Antique – Belison, Sebaste, Pandan
Classes from elementary to high school are likewise suspended in:
- Talisay, Batangas
- Calamba, Laguna
- Anini-y, Antique
- Santa Rosa, Laguna (public schools only)
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) already hoisted tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) no. 5 in parts of Batanes while the rest of the province remained under TCWS no. 4.
‘Leon’ was monitored 140 kilometers East of Basco, Batanes, moving northwestward at 15 km per hour as of 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday. It had maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 230 km/h.
Residents are urged to stay updated and take necessary precautions as the typhoon continues to impact Northern Luzon.
