Tuguegarao City, Cagayan—The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported Thursday that thousands of residents are currently seeking temporary shelter in evacuation centers due to the effects of severe tropical storm ‘Kristine.’
Cagayan PDRRMC said a total of 3,795 individuals and 1,321 families from 101 barangays in 17 municipalities across the province had to leave their homes amid nonstop heavy downpour that overflowed rivers, causing floods.
Cagayan remains under tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) no. 3 along with neighboring provinces Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Isabela, where ‘Kristine’ made landfall.
To guarantee everyone’s safety, the evacuees are currently residing at a number of evacuation centers set up by their local government units throughout the province.
Meanwhile, the Piat-Tuao Ferry Itawes Bridge in the town of Tuao, Cagayan overflowed owing to rains at approximately 12:45 AM on October 24, 2024, making it impossible for any kind of vehicle to cross.
Also, the Salungsong Bridge in Sta. Praxedes, Natallag bridge in Penablanca, Bagunot bridge and Bitag Pequeno bridge in Baggao, and Pinacanauan bridge Goran Bridge, Tana-Annabuculan Road remain impassable.
The initial value of agricultural damage reached P373,918,998.33, affecting 74,023 hectares and 73,151 farmers.
The entire PDRRMC remains on red alert and continues to patrol the areas under their jurisdiction to ensure the safety of their residents from the threat of the said typhoon.
