The conference aims to address pressing national challenges in areas such as food security, sustainable agriculture, education, governance, energy, and health through AI-driven solutions.

This initiative coincides with the recognition of physicist John Hopfield and computer scientist Geoffrey Hinton by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for their groundbreaking work in machine learning and artificial neural networks.

UP President Atty. Angelo A. Jimenez emphasized that the 2024 Nobel Prize highlights the necessity of investing in AI for the country’s future.“As one of the world’s most prestigious science awards recognized AI’s global significance, UP has been taking concrete steps to harness its power for national progress,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Gisela P. Concepcion, UP’s Special Adviser on Research and Innovation, noted that the Nobel-winning discoveries exhibit AI’s potential to drive innovation across various fields.

“Just as Hopfield and Hinton laid the foundations for modern AI, UP aims to lay the groundwork for AI-driven national development. This conference is our step towards positioning the Philippines at the forefront of AI innovation in Southeast Asia.”

Keynote speakers will include government officials and experts from various sectors discussing AI applications in food security, education, governance, materials, energy, and health.

Closing remarks will be delivered by UP Vice President for Academic Affairs Leo Cubillan MD and UP Diliman Chancellor Atty. Carlo Vistan.
