CHED, Canada school meet on reformation

COMMISSION on Higher Education (CHED) chairman Dr. Prospero De Vera on Wednesday met with representatives of Colleges and Institutes Canada (CiCan) and Mabalacat City College to discuss a plan of action for capacity building of local colleges transitioning to community colleges.

De Vera, in a social media post, said transforming local colleges into community institutions of higher learning will contribute significantly to workforce development in high-demand industries across the country.

CiCan, Canada’s largest post-secondary education network, has been involved in international projects for more than 40 years, and delivering more than 800 projects in over 100 countries. 

“We listen to partners in developing countries to better understand their needs and design solutions that work in local contexts. We connect leaders, educators, and innovators to address worldwide challenges like climate change, poverty, and inequality.” CiCan said in its website.

According to Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) the country’s employment rate in August 2024 was estimated at 96.0 percent, higher than the estimated employment rate in August 2023 at 95.6 percent.
