Ben Tulfo files candidacy for senator, denies ‘dynasty’ tag

Broadcaster Ben Tulfo formalized his Senate bid on Saturday, filing his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) as an Independent senatorial aspirant.

The commentator, famous for his TV show “Bitag,” cited his work, which he calls “community service.”

“We’re not in the public service. We’re in the fourth estate. We’re supposed to be agnostic, which means our job is to tell the truth,” Tulfo said in a speech.

“We realized that in helping a lot of people in the last 22 years, they keep coming back – broken system,” he added.

Ben, the brother of Sen. Raffy Tulfo and fellow aspirant Erwin Tulfo, said that public service runs through their veins. He currently ranks second in the latest Pulse Asia survey for the senatorial race, with his brother Erwin at the top.

“We have solved a lot of problems through legislators who came to us and acted like partners because we became their case study,” Ben said.

“We don’t have any district. Running for (the) Senate, it’s a national office. You cannot have (a) dynasty,” he added, saying that it’s not his fault for loving the profession that his brothers do.
