Trece Martires City, Cavite—The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed a total of P777,624,682.82 worth of dangerous drugs at the Integrated Waste Management, Inc. (IWMI) in Barangay Aguado on Thursday, Sept. 12.

The illegal substances weighed a total of 1.474 tons in solid drugs and 378.5 milliliters in liquid form. These include methamphetamine hydrochloride or ‘shabu,’ marijuana, MDMA or ecstasy, cocaine, ephedrine, psilocin, liquid meth and liquid marijuana.

The pieces of drug evidence were stacked inside an incinerator chamber and exposed to high temperatures of over 1,000 degrees centigrade. All dangerous drugs were reduced to ashes, and completely decomposed or broken down, making them impossible to reconstitute.

The destruction process should deter drug recycling and pilferage, according to PDEA. The burnt dangerous drugs comprised the evidence seized from various anti-drug operations conducted by the agency, together with other law enforcement groups.

Present to witness the activity were representatives from various government organizations including the Department of Justice, Department of Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, as well as non-government organizations.

In compliance with the proper disposal of seized drug evidence as required by law, PDEA continues to practice the destruction of all confiscated illegal drugs right after an issuance of a court order. The drugs were destroyed as they were no longer needed as evidence by the courts.
