President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed Executive Order 69, transferring the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) back under the Office of the President (OP) for policy and program coordination.

The order, signed on September 5, reverses Executive Order 168, which had previously attached the NIA to the Department of Agriculture (DA).

This EO signing aims to streamline and rationalize government agencies with similar mandates.

Under the order, the NIA Board of Directors will be reorganized to include representatives from the OP, NIA Administrator, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), DA, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), and a representative from the private sector to be appointed by the President.

Mr. Marcos emphasized that effective irrigation management is crucial to achieving food security and infrastructure development, which are key priorities of his administration.
