Police officers arrested Friday a security guard for shooting a man foraging for food at a restaurant in Barangay Central, Quezon City.

The suspect was identified as Remwil Garcera, 58, a resident of Barangay Tandang Sora.

Based on a police report, the victim—37-year-old Mark Oliveros from Barangay Commonwealth—was loitering at the restaurant’s premises when Garcera called his attention.

A heated altercation ensued between them, prompting the victim to throw a stone at the suspect, who fired three shots. The victim was hit by a bullet in his right lower abdomen.

Authorities from the Quezon City Police District-Station 10 arrested Garcera, while the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office took Oliveros to the East Avenue Medical Center for medical treatment.

Garcera would be charged with frustrated homicide.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety of all residents in Quezon City. This event underscores the importance of proper conduct and adherence to the law, even among those entrusted with maintaining security,” district director Rederico Maranan said.
