UP, CHR agree on transfer deed for ML museum

The University of the Philippines (UP) and the Human Rights Violation Victims Memorial Commission (HRVVMC) on Friday announced the signing of the required deed of transfer for the Martial Law museum in the former’s Diliman campus.

In their joint statement, they said both parties have agreed to formally sign the said document on September 27.

This effectively resolves the concern regarding the new UP Diliman campus maintenance offices (CMO) and workshops funded by HRVVMC. The existing CMO area will be the site of the Freedom Memorial Museum.

“The transfer will pave the way for the clearing of old structures and start of construction at the future site of the Freedom Memorial Museum, which will serve as a vital educational resource and a poignant reminder of our nation’s history,” the joint statement read.

Both parties said the initiative underscores their shared commitment to preserving the struggles of a people during the Martial Law era and, thus, honoring the victims of human rights violations.

The HRVVMC and UP said they look forward to the successful completion of the museum project and the continued partnership between both institutions.
