President Ferdinand Marcos on Wednesday vowed that anyone implicated in aiding fugitive Alice Guo’s illegal departure will be held accountable.
“All of those who are implicated in assisting Alice Guo to leave the Philippines illegally as a fugitive from justice will certainly pay the price,” President Marcos said in an interview.
“You’re asking who will be booted out? It’s not just that we’ll kick them out. We’re also going to file charges against them because what they did is against the law and goes against all the interests of the Philippine judicial system.,” he added.
Guo—or Gua Hua Ping—was arrested in Tangerang City, Indonesia, at 1 a.m. on Sept. 4 after departing the country in July.
President Marcos did not specify who would be dismissed or charged. “You’ll find out soon enough,” he told reporters.
Moreover, he confirmed that authorities are finalizing the arrangements for Guo’s return to the Philippines.
The dismissed mayor is expected to be back in the country on the same day. The Bureau of Immigration said they expect to bring back Guo within the week.
“They don’t require marching orders,” President Marcos said of officials handling Guo’s case.
“They’re implementing the legal orders that were sent to them by the court, and that is to bring back the fugitive Alice Guo to the Philippines, so that is what they are doing,” he stated.
