The P8.2 billion Commission on Elections (Comelec) building will soon rise in Pasay City, poll chairman George Garcia said, defending the construction as a necessity and not a luxury.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Garcia said the 9-story building will allow the Comelec to house under one roof not only its offices but also its warehouses, training facilities, event venues, and even dormitories for employees.
He said that they have been waiting for 84 years to own a building.
“The construction will immediately start and we will strive to finish it in just 3 to 4 years,” the poll chief added.
Currently, the Comelec rents several various buildings, including some floors at the Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros, Manila, and warehouses in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
