BAI, PNP inspect over 2K animal shipments, reject 10 from NCR

As of August 28, 2024, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), in collaboration with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and local government units, inspected a total of 1,963 shipments of live animals and meat products at various checkpoints across the National Capital Region (NCR).

Of these, 113 shipments were returned to their origin due to non-compliance with animal health regulations, while 13 underwent further testing to ensure they were free from diseases.

Unfortunately, 10 shipments were condemned due to serious health concerns. However, after meeting the necessary requirements, 1,827 shipments were cleared and released, BAI said.

The heightened inspection is part of the ongoing campaign to protect animal health and prevent the spread of diseases such as African Swine Fever (ASF).

BAI stressed that the mandatory inspection of animal shipments is crucial to ensure that all transported animals comply with regulations, especially in areas at high risk for animal disease outbreaks.

BAI continues to work closely with law enforcement and local government units to monitor the transport of animals within NCR.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) urges hog traders and transporters to comply with regulations to avoid the further spread of ASF and other animal diseases and protect the nation’s swine industry.
