Public school teachers in the Philippines will receive enhanced healthcare benefits starting in 2025 pursuant to Executive Order No. 64, s. 2024, which was signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

An increased annual medical allowance of Php 7,000 from the previous Php 500 will be introduced for government employees, which includes educators, aimed at subsidizing health maintenance organization (HMO)-type benefits for eligible personnel.
“If we pool that together, we can secure comprehensive insurance coverage for our teachers,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara stated.

The increase represents a staggering 1,300% rise from the 2020 allowance, which was primarily intended for diagnostic tests.

In addition to the medical allowance, teachers will also benefit from a Php 5,000 tax-free teaching allowance for the 2024-2025 school year.

This teaching allowance is set to double to Php 10,000 in the 2025-2026 school year, thanks to the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act, co-authored by Secretary Angara.

Furthermore, the Department of Education has reminded staff about their eligibility for claims under the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).

The GSIS Personal Accident Insurance policy provides coverage for accidental death or dismemberment up to Php 100,000, along with medical reimbursement for injuries up to Php 30,000.
