The Philippine Navy on Saturday reported that its BRP Herminigildo Yurong (PG906) recently completed a key event in maintaining the vessel’s operational readiness and precision.
Reports said that Yurong’s routine exercise is essential for ensuring that the ship’s weapon systems remain in top condition and are capable of meeting the demands of various operational scenarios.
During the test, the crew assessed the effectiveness of the ship’s gun systems under realistic conditions.
The exercise included firing at designated targets to measure the accuracy and reliability of the weapons, as well as to ensure proper functioning of the targeting and fire control systems. The results of these tests provide critical data for fine-tuning operational procedures and enhancing the ship’s overall combat effectiveness.
Last May, the Navy commissioned into service the BRP Yurong, one of the two additional fast attack interdiction craft (FAICs) from Israel.
“These [craft] are indispensable assets for archipelagic defense, tailored to address unique challenges inherent to the Philippine maritime landscape. As force multipliers, these [craft] enable rapid deployment and force projection, strengthen our deterrence, and uphold maritime security across Philippine waters,” Navy Flag Officer in Command Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr said.
