The Philippines’ frontline defenders are currently developing the Philippine reserve forces for its important role in national security, AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. stated on Saturday.

In an interview during the graduation ceremony of Basic Citizen Military Course Class in Baguio City, Brawner described the ceremony as “a big boost to the country’s defense posture” as the AFP is in the phase of developing the Philippines’ reserves.

“Kung nakikita natin ngayon ang mga nangyayaring giyera sa buong mundo like Ukraine, in Israel and Gaza, the reserve force play a very important role, so kaya napaka importante po madevelop sa ating bansa yung reserve force natin,” he said.

“We have had the reserve force for the longest time, but because of the challenges we are facing in the region, we have to train them properly and make sure they are prepared for any eventuality,” the AFP chief added.

Brawner also lauded the graduates of the said program from Class 08-24 01 and 09-24 who will join the Philippine Navy’s reserve force based in Northern Luzon.

“Your dedication and commitment to serving in the citizen reserve force play a crucial role in safeguarding our nation’s security. In the face of ongoing challenges, strengthening our reserve force is essential in enhancing our territorial defense,” he stressed.

According to AFP Public Affairs Office Chief Colonel Xerxes Trinidad, the ceremony marked the successful completion of the training program for the new graduates, who demonstrated dedication and commitment throughout the course.

The Basic Citizen Military Course is designed to equip participants with essential military skills and knowledge that foster a spirit of nationalism and readiness to serve the nation in times of need.
