Victory Liner ordered to explain bus shooting

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Friday issued a show-cause order to Victory Liner Inc. following a shooting incident in one of its buses in Nueva Ecija.

Frederick Valero, LTFRB Legal Division chief, said the board en banc issued the order asking the bus firm to explain in writing why its certificate of public convenience should not be revoked or cancelled for its alleged failure to provide adequate, comfortable and dependable land public transportation.

“Respondent is hereby directed to appear the Board on the scheduled hearing date on 21 Nov. 2023 at 1:30 in the afternoon at the fourth floor, LTFRB hearing room,” the order read.

Valero warned the bus company that failure to answer within the period and to attend the hearing shall be considered as a waiver to be heard, and that the case shall be submitted for resolution.

On Nov. 15, a 60-year-old businesswoman from Cauayan City, Isabela and her partner, a 55-year-old man from Koronadal, South Cotabato were shot dead by two gunmen while traversing Barangay Joson, in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija.

Victory Liner corporate communications officer Ricky Rivera said Friday the company would tighten security checks.

Authorities are also studying the possibility of bringing back bus marshals after the shooting incident.
