The Commission on Elections (Comelec) donated P10 million to the Philippine Coast Guard (PGC) to support Coast Guard operations in the upcoming 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) this month.

Comelec chairman George Garcia, who handed the check to Coast Guard Admiral Artemio Abu during the ceremonial turnover at the PCG headquarters in Manila, said the PCG will provide security in the transport of election paraphernalia for the October 30 BSKE.

Garcia said the poll body decided to give additional funds to PCG “since  they are using their resources whenever they assist us and all the time we get their support for free and we don’t want to be freeloaders.”

He said PCG  provides the poll body with guard dogs and personnel in the deployment of election ballots and other election paraphernalia nationwide.

For his part, Abu thanked the Comelec, saying the fund will help them in assisting the poll body in the upcoming elections. Abu assured the Comelec that the PCG will be transparent and that they will use the funds properly.
