House okays SSS pension hike committee report

The House Committee on Government Enterprises has approved the committee report that recommends a P 2,000 increase in the Social Security System (SSS) pension.

The measure is now up for second reading in which the bill will now need to pass through the scrutiny of the House of Representatives in a plenary session.

SSS Chairman Amado Valdez earlier said, the measure must contain a provision stating where the funds will be sourced so that an pension increase can be implemented.

Former President Noynoy Aquino had vetoed the bill, saying the increase will be disastrous to the reserves of the state pension fund.
