Angkas, the largest motorcycle taxi group in the country and the AngKasangga Party-list led yesterday the holding of a public consultation on concerns affecting riders and the moto taxi operations across the country.
“This consultation is just the beginning as we call for a continued nationwide holding of this kind of event,” Angkas CEO and AngKasangga nominee George Royeca said.
The public consultation was attended by hundreds of riders, leaders of riders’ group and that of moto taxi operators from around the country in cooperation with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) personnel and officers in Quezon City.
“We are always ready to work with the LTO, DOTr, and other related government agencies to create meaningful solutions that would uplift motorcycle riders cause while ensuring a safer and more efficient transport system for the commuters,” Royeca also said.
Royeca further said that once in Congress, the AngKasangga would be working not only for the benefits of riders in Metro Manila but all over the country for them to be aware of their rights and on how to protect their business including that of the tricycle drivers and operators.
“We will bring government services down to the people in the provinces to discuss burning issues affecting all concerned sectors, especially the riders,” Royeca stated.
He added that AngKasangga would propose that riders with be provided benefits by the government for like any other employees they are also paying there taxes.
“We would work that all of them must become legit employees with regular government benefits, no more informal workers,” Royeca stressed.
Royeca pointed out that the AngKasangga would not only look for the riders’ concerns, but that also of their passengers by making it mandatory that they would also be covered by insurance.
He claimed that any act or move beneficial to both sides that could result in the strengthening of the moto taxi services and business must be given full support by the government.
